Rasem Al-Aboud PS8 Pump Station Rehabilitation

The Aleppo Water Resources Directorate, in partnership with the IYD organization, launched the rehabilitation of the PS8 sub-pump station in Rasem Al-Aboud, within the broader Maskana West project. The initiative aims to strengthen agricultural irrigation capacity and support a transition to renewable energy sources.

The project involved a full overhaul of the station's equipment and the installation of an integrated solar energy system comprising 196 photovoltaic panels, supplemented by auxiliary service panels to support continuous operation. Works also included the maintenance and rehabilitation of the feeder canal to improve water conveyance efficiency and reduce losses.

Station PS8 is a component of the area's agricultural irrigation network, serving approximately 200 hectares of farmland through three primary pump sets and one auxiliary unit. This configuration supports operational reliability and helps the station meet peak irrigation demand.

Maskana Water Station Project

In a parallel development, the Aleppo Water Resources Directorate announced on 13 April 2025 the commencement of equipment installation at the Maskana shared water station, following a coordination meeting with the International Committee of the Red Cross to finalize technical and logistical arrangements. The project is designed to supply drinking water to approximately 45 villages in eastern rural Aleppo, and to support irrigation across an estimated 18,000 hectares of agricultural land.

Sustainable Development Goals

Both projects form part of a broader effort to rebuild water infrastructure across rural Aleppo and to advance a gradual shift toward clean energy, supporting the long-term sustainability of natural resources and reducing operational costs. According to the Ministry of Energy, the work of the technical teams improved the station's readiness and the reliability of irrigation services in the region.
