Schools Returned to Operation
A further 32 schools in various districts of rural Idlib have been reopened following the completion of comprehensive repair works. This brings the total number of schools returned to operation since the start of 2025 to approximately 580 schools, as part of a plan to restore full educational coverage across the governorate.
Around 100 additional schools are currently undergoing restoration works aimed at expanding their capacity to accommodate larger numbers of students. According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) on 20 June 2026, Idlib Governorate held a central ceremony to reopen 50 schools restored and rehabilitated across various parts of the governorate, under the "Wafa for Idlib" campaign, with the participation of the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management and support from the Rahma Around the World foundation.
Among the works SANA highlighted was the Dhi Qar school, with more than 800 square metres of floor area comprising 21 classrooms, two administrative rooms and a laboratory; works covered the courtyard, garden, perimeter wall and exterior, and the planting of 85 trees. This is a further batch after the 32 schools SANA reported on 14 April 2026, the occasion on which Idlib's governor said the total number of schools reopened in the governorate had reached about 580. The June report gives no updated cumulative figure.
