Rashmi Metaliks began pig iron production in May 2007 and operates a 215 m³ mini blast furnace of TRF design, originally engineered in Brazil. The plant produces 630,000 tonnes per annum of pig iron and is one of the recognised eastern Indian suppliers of low-sulphur and low-phosphorus grades suitable for ductile-grade castings.
End-use industries include precision castings under pressure, crankshaft and engine block manufacturing, rolling mill rolls, gears, railway and machine tool components, and motor and generator housings. The plant feeds the company's downstream Steel Melting Shop and is also sold to external foundries and casting houses.
