Topseal is a water-based asphalt waterproofing coating made from modified and cured bitumen and manufactured according to American specification ASTM D 1227 Type III. It is supplied as a dark brown liquid which is applied directly onto prepared substrates by brush, roller, or spray, without the use of solvents or open flame.
After application and drying, the coating cures to a deep black, flexible protective layer. The final film is strong, adheres to typical construction substrates, and prevents the penetration of liquid water and water vapour, which makes it suitable for roofs and similar exposed surfaces.
